Dry Spells

**Weep, weep** you can hear from my husband as he walks out the door to work. Man, he has it bad. Can you believe it's been 3 full sexless days for him? He must think he's practically a virgin, or something. I am certain, that as married men, and women we all go through a "dry spell" every once, and a while when it comes to not having sex, or giving oral sex.

For us, it's been like 3 days, and already my husband is pouting, complaining, and exaggerating that it's been weeks, almost a month - and I thought I was the one who has succumbed to memory loss after having 3 little ones.

What I would like to know, and what I'm sure many women would like to know is what is the typical length of a "dry spell" in a marriage? Is it a week? A month? A year?

If everyone would share their experiences as married women, and men that have children that would be great. Perhaps myself, and many other women could give our husbands who are fathers, a reason to simmer down after only missing a night or 2! After all, sometimes there is more to life than sex - right?

Although, I know my husband would disagree.

The original version of this cartoon pic is shaking, and it's quite funny, I found it at www.cartoons4fun.com

oh we have had our dry spells. I can't really say what is typical. We have went days before...and there were times we went a week or more. It depends. Right after having children made for a huge dryspell. While I was sick it was a loooooong time. Now? I would say maybe 3 or 4 days is a *typical* dry spell.

We have gone about two weeks before, but now we don't go without sex for more than two or three days.
It really did hurt our relationship when we weren't being intimate as often. We made the effort to have sex everyday and it made all the difference.

Unlike many of your commenters, my marriage has been pretty rocky. And the "dry spells" are many and long. Our longest was our most recent one. A month. I'm starting to feel like an old married couple, but have only just hit ten years.

Of course there have been the ones times that we can't help not getting any, when he is gone for a year with the military, which I guess makes these dry spells seem short!

I seem to be the odd one out here! Married 17 years to a great guy, but some of our "dry spells" last quite a while, like weeks sometimes. Usually because I'm too tired or not feeling well. Honest.

I'm sure it depends on the cause of the dry spell. Our dry spells are usually because we aren't getting along, and they are usually initiated by my husband. The longest was six months. Typically, though, even when we're getting along, we only have sex every couple weeks. I would be up for more...

My Hubby works away for 4 weeks out of five so our dry spells last a month. It irrates both of us and of course there are a lot a sexy phone conversations in between. When he is home he expects it everyday, but with two little kids it is near immpossible, not to mention tiring. Your hubby has nothing to whinge about, tell him it could be worse.

I don't think 3 days is considered a dry spell, although we rarely go that long. We are pretty much an every other day kind of couple....I'm lucky, though, my husband doesn't want it if I'm not enjoying it. (Smart man...I never feel resentful about it, therefore he gets more) I have to say, one of the things that makes us work is that we both know that at anytime one or the other of us may need to take a time out to recharge our (sex) batteries. (It can be 3 days or 3 weeks) When we announce that we need a break, we don't hound the other person about when things will resume. After a week, we agree that if the other person is desperate for "attention", we will satisfy that need....it works well for us. And we rarely need breaks!

Well, other than the six weeks after I had my daughter, I think the longest we have ever gone is about a week and a half or two weeks, but it doesn't happen often. I think a dry spell should be characterized by each individuals relationship's practices. If you normally have sex once a week, I'd say a dry spell is a month. If you usually do it once every couple of weeks, maybe a month and a half. Or just when you feel like it's been a long time.

I have never felt like we had hit a dry spell, because I was always too busy to even notice! LOL

The longest we go is 2 weeks. It's usually because he is so dang tired because he works 7 days/12 hours a day during certain months.

He is going to be fine. Take care of him tonight, he will be smiling again in the morning.

I'm new to this blog, and I'm happy to see this post :) That being said, my hubby and I have been married 7 1/2 years, and we've gone as long as 11 months at the longest, 3 months as the shortest. I work long hours, he's a musician that puts in a lot of studio time, and we have a young daughter who's 5. It hasn't hurt our relationship any. . .we're so dog-gone tired all the time that the days just go on! Tame :)

When I was preggo with my first DH and I were both nervous so almost a year! Now a week or two.

For my hubby and I, a dry spell could last over a month. Seriously.

Depends on the reason. Hubby wasn't into preggo sex, and I was NOT into post-preggo sex, so we went almost a year. And it's hard to 'schedule' in these days but it's usually only a week before we find the time.

Our dry spell is going on almost 6 months now. It's all him. I want him to get a vasectomy, and he's not big on that idea. He works a lot, and we go to bed at different times as well. Not really sure how to fix the problem, especially if he's not bothered by the situation.

Our longest dry spell is probably about 2 months. However, we have gone longer without since DH is military. POOR GUY indeed! My husband gets grumpy after a few days. Its amazing how nice selective hearing can be!

well, they last as long as I can take the pouting :) about 2 days

Because of the work my hubby does we have gone for 2 weeks at a time. I think it wouldn't be so long if he was home more but who knows. If he had his way he would have it all day everyday.

i have been turned off by sex since before my son was born (he's 18 mos.). but we have sex about every 2 weeks. only because he gets really mad when i reject him. i could go MUCH longer if he didn't want it. he seems to be pretty understanding up to the 2 week mark. then he gets mad.

I thought my hubby was the only one that gets MAD when the dry spell happens. Typically for us is three or four days, sometimes five. By that time, hubby is pouting, mad, sensitive, walking around like he has not had sex in a year. I try not to let it go that long because sex makes us closer and I like that. Still loving your blog!
