Sassy Saturday

I found this, and thought that it was silly. I felt a little silly today, and thought I'd start a Sassy Saturday just for fun.

By the way, if it isn't obvious, I'm almost certain that this must have been created by a MAN.

I don't know about you, but my brain would have parts more like:

Poopy Diaper Sensory System, Baby Brain Restrictor - that no longer allows you to process thoughts at an optimal level, and then there would be a meter of some kind, which would read....

1 - Tired. Long day with kids. You are on top tonight.
3- Really tired, can't keep my eyes open. Sore from lugging the kids around. Sex in the dark, you on top, I'm not moving.
5- Exhausted. Don't even think of poking me with that thing or I'll have to pull off your nipple, and it will be the last time you ever try that. Don't even think of keeping this Momma Bear from her long anticipated date with hibernation.
10- Head hits the pillow, and instant exhaustion induced coma. No arguments here. Zzzz.

Sincerely,

Mama of Romance

Chapter Four

I invite you to read Chapter One, Chapter Two, and Chapter Three if you haven't already, and if would like to follow along with the story. Read Chapter One. Read Chapter Two. Read Chapter Three.

___________________________________

His house wasn’t anything special. It was small. The outside had white siding that was gray with dirt, and had little appeal. The inside was rather displeasing, to put it mildly. In fact, inside was utterly disgusting. The dust balls stood as tall as my shoes, which I left on because the floor was so gross. He had two cats that weren’t properly litter trained; probably because he hardly ever changed their litter. They peed on boxes, of which there were many, in corners, or on anything that was left on the floor. The smell was overpowering, and made me want to vomit, but I got used to it. What was worse though, than the atrocious smell, and the thick layer of dust that coated everything, was that when the cats threw up on the floor - probably from all the hair balls, Dad would set a piece of newspaper over top of it, leaving it to dry into a hard crust. Just as the cats avoided their litter box; which I never blamed them for, I avoiding the bathtub. I figured it was far dirtier than I could ever achievable be, and I knew I wouldn’t be there for very long. So I often went outside, and I always kept my windows open.

I remember sitting there thinking about all the times that my father had been a disappointment to me, how he was a horrible husband, and father.

One of my first memories was of being home alone with him when Mom was working. I was two, or three years old at the most. She taught me how to look after myself, because she knew he could be absolutely useless. There was no certain emergency that day, I was just hungry. Dad was off drinking. So I pulled a chair over to the counter, and climbed up. Leaning over the counter, I grabbed a slice of bread from the bag, and as I put it in the toaster, my father walked into the kitchen (probably to get himself another drink). He grabbed me from the chair, and spanked my bum really hard. I remember crying until Mom got home; my bottom hurt, and I was starving. My father had absolutely no clue.

Mom always said I shouldn’t count on him for anything. She was right. I realized now that I couldn’t even count on him to save my life.

Right then, and there, I decided to give him an ultimatum: me, or the alcohol?

When I could hear him shuffling around downstairs, I knew it was time for a talk.

However, after a rather uneventful conversation, and listening to him sob for it’s entirety, we came to a pretty pathetic agreement. He just couldn’t give up the booze. So instead, he promised never to drink around me anymore. I have to give him some credit, he kept his word for a while.

I never told Mom what happened that day. Afterwards, Dad seemed to be on his best behaviour. My father was a very sensitive man, and I was his whole world - “Daddy’s little girl.” He had already lost my mom, he didn’t want to lose me as well.

“We need to speak with you.” My eyes open, and I see the nurse, but Mom isn’t with her.

Startled, I drop the crocheting on the floor, and follow her into a room where I see three doctors standing in front of an x-ray. Moms’ sitting alone in the corner, expressionless. Proceeding inside, I refrain from sitting in the chair that the nurse directs me to, arms crossed, I tightly squeeze them, my fingernails digging into my skin.

This is the same room I stood in on the first day we came here, when I asked the doctor what he meant, and he explained:

“I’m sorry, but your mother has a tumor in her lungs the size of a grapefruit, and it’s metastasized, spreading to her brain.” He then proceeded to give his prognosis: that my mom only had a few months left to live.

This time, there were three of them, and the one I knew spoke first. “The tumors in your mother’s brain are growing very rapidly, and are causing a lot of pressure. This is why she’s having so much discomfort, impaired speech, and lack of mobility in her extremities. We want to make her as comfortable as possible. Since she seems to be very frustrated, we would like to help her by alleviating the pressure. In doing so, hopefully, she’ll regain some of her mobility, and ability to communicate with us.” He pauses.

I try to absorb wait he just said. One of the other doctors proceeds to explain a procedure which can be performed to help my mother. They speak as though mom isn’t even in the room. Then the first doctor continues.

“Since you’re the Power of Attorney, and she’s unable sign the forms, we need to know what you want us to do.” I looked at him, dumbfounded.

“I need a minute,” I muster.

I go over to Mom, kneel down in front of her, and ask “Mom, do you know what the doctors are saying?”

She nods, yes. “What do you want me to do, Mom?” I ask, then I remember she can’t answer that, I rephrase the question: “Mom, do you want to do this?

Again, she nods, yes, but I feel unsure, and obligated to ask her again. “Mom, are you sure you want to do this?”

She nods yes, and tries to speak, getting very agitated. Turing to the doctors, I say: “What do you want me to sign?” Before we leave, the nurse shaves each side of her head, and marks her with a marker to prepare for tomorrow. Going home was a blur. I lay restless in my bed, imagining what will happen tomorrow. I can’t sleep. To get the horrible images out of my head, I force myself to think other thoughts.

I’ve often wondered why Mom went back into that house. One day, I finally decided to ask here. Her response was, “I had to get my purse.”

“My God Mom, we should have just left. It didn’t matter.” I remember saying.

“I know,” she said, and signed, “I’ve paid for it ever since.”

I never understood why she took that risk, I probably never will. I do know however that she was just trying to look after us the best way she knew how.

Mom worked so hard at everything she did. For over thirty years, she was an under appreciated secretary who worked all year long, long hours, and seldomely took holidays. She did the same thing every day, and every week, for years. Waking at the crack of dawn, she got dressed, packed her breakfast, and lunch, and headed off to work. She would even toast her toast before leaving home, wrap it in tinfoil, and stick it in her bag, eating it once she got to work, while she worked. The bag she took to work rest at home by the bench at the front door, always stinking, and filling most of our home with the smell of cold toast. I will forever hate the smell, and taste of cold, mushy toast. She insisted that this saved time, and also claimed that by working early, and leaving early, she was able to avoid rush hour traffic, which was probably true. However, by the time she ran errands, got home, and made supper, she was ready for bed. On weekends, she caught up on the housework, leaving her almost no time at all to enjoy life.

If my mother got paid by commission, or even by the jobs that she preformed, she would have been a billionaire. Sadly, she made little money, and always had trouble making ends meet. She continued this monotonous routine for years, and years, and years. Little did she know, that there could have been more to life than this.

I wake, feeling like I hardly slept at all.

This day turns out to be like all the others, except as I’m about to sit down in my seat in the waiting room like I normally do, my arm is yanked. Looking up, I see Mom in the wheelchair, about to be taken away by the nurse, her arm stretched out to me, tugging on my sleeve with what little strength she has left. She wants me to go with her. So I get up, and follow her, and the nurse into a room.

The nurse is busy preparing thing. Mom sits, and to my surprise tightly squeezes my hand. She’s gritting her teeth, and her eyes begin to water. I can tell she’s scared. I don’t want to be there, but I can’t leave her alone. I want to cry, but for my mother’s sake, I know I have to be strong. I bite my lip, and look up at the ceiling, trying to get the tears to go away. They’re ready.

As they begin the procedure, I feel like I’m on the set of a horror movie. They lay my mother down, and restrain her. She tenses. The doctor gives her two needles on either side of her temples, and on each side of the back of her head. Then, he starts drilling into the side of her skull. I cringe, and my mother screams. It’s absolutely horrible, and so utterly inhumane.

When they’re done, we leave, and my mother has four screws sticking out of her head, I can’t help but think of Frankenstein, and I can’t bare to look at her. This cannot be really happening.

Some Days I Wish I Had Balls

One feeling that I really do not like experiencing, which leaves me feeling completely guilty for allowing myself to feel this way, and makes me mad to the core - is resentment.

Actually, I think there's got to be a little jealousy, and anger mixed into this unwanted brew as well.

As much as I try to force it out of my head, or heart, or wherever it resides, I find it creeps back in, only to upset me more.

I'll be honest, there are days where I wish that I had balls.

In fact, if I had balls, I think I'd be so proud of them, that I'd knit myself my very own ball warmers.

If I had balls, then things would be so different.

I would wake up, meander out of bed, get dressed, eat breakfast, and leave for work.

I'd work all day, and then return home to a home cooked meal, and some cute kids that miss me tremendously.

Then, I would sit in the bathroom, and read the paper for as long as I feel like it, and slowly make my way to the dinner table.

After gorging myself, and chatting for a few minutes, I would proceed to do whatever I feel like doing - that is unless my dear wife decides to nag at me to do something else. Man don't you hate that!? What does she want anyway?

Essentially, though I would get to come, and go as I please. Life, on my own terms.

If anyone complains about my existence, I can argue that I'm the bread winner of the family, and I have so much work to do, that can't wait, and after a long day I should be granted the right to do as I please.

Well HELLO Mr. Balls so big and mighty, welcome to PARENTHOOD.

Why not stay for a while, and allow me to welcome you to my world.

I am sorry, but there are times - far and few inbetween, but they exist nonetheless, where I feel like I would just love to be in my husbands shoes for a day - an hour even.

To have the freedom to do what I want, when I want, and not feel guilty. To be able to pick up, and go without having to worry about the kids. To be able to stay, and hang out as their buddy ol' pal.

How uncanny it must be to have to put in the effort to discipine them, or tend to them without having to be asked to do it.

Since we have gotten home, my husband is working double time. He's stressed, I'm stressed. I miss him, and more importantly, the kids miss him too. He feels super pressured to do as much as he possibly can, because he missed so much work while we were away.

But, for me that means long days with the kids, no help, no support, no adult conversation, and literally just passing each other by in the hall.

I have to BEG to get him to do anything, and he's been nothing but gruff because he is feeling so stressed.

It's things like jealousy, anger, and resentment that can widdle away at your relationship, and I know that. But, how can you just make these feelings go away?

Deep down, I have a fear that if I allow my husband to do what he wants, when he wants, that he will continue to always do so. He will continue to put work first on his list, and family last.

So, I guess there's fear in this ugly mix as well.

Where does this leave us when it comes to our sex life? Well, no where.

How can you possibly feel like making love with the person that you hardly see, speak to, and of which you feel these terrible feelings about?

Must be nice to have balls, and be able to engage in sex whenever you feel like it - without the concern of "feelings." You know, I am insanely amazed at how my husband can want to have sex in the worst of situations.

For example, one time we were hiking in the desert, and he was oh so brilliant, and decided to take off his shoes. He backed onto a cactus, screaming with pain.

Do you know what the first thing was that was on his mind as I tried to pull out the thorns? - SEX!

But of course. If men gave birth, I'm certain that after labouring for a few hours, okay make that minutes, they would want to have sex to reduce the pain.

I need for my husband to take the initiative to put his family first, to participate in family. Not only would it help to reduce my stress, all these yucky feelings that I have inside, but consequently more SEX would follow.

I know that what I'm feeling is just another bump in the road. But, Honey, like my 4 year-old says "If you want any Lovin' - do it."

Sexy Tip #7 For Moms

Enjoy The Mess.

Why stress? We all do most of the time. The laundry needs to be done, the kitchen tidied up. Why not let it be messy - every once, and a while...and enjoy it?

Besides, some days you can't beat em' anyway - so if you can't beat em', join em'!

There's nothing more satisfying, and ridiculously fun than having a food fight with your partner, or a water fight.

Think it's crazy? Well, somedays if you walked into my house you wouldn't know if a bomb of food went off anyway. My kids spill more drinks, snacks, and meals in a day than I can keep track of regardless of me cleaning up.

So a little extra cleanup won't be that much harder to do.

My personal favorite is eating fruit like strawberries, blueberries, and rasberries, and pudding some extra whipping cream on my husbands nose for fun. He gets me back, of course. Or icecream.

He falls for it every time that I over him a lick from my icecream cone, and my hand "slips" upwards to get his nose every time.

Whatever you do, make sure you be playful every once and a while, just you and your partner. It certainly does help to minimize all the other stressors in your life, and keep things from getting dull in your relationship.

Mama of Romance

On a Serious Note

Well I am back from holidays. Or shall I say a nightmare.

Unfortunately, our vehicle broke down, and it took two days longer to get home, with our three little ones in the hot sun, walking endlessly, trying to entertain everyone, and after spending a fortune on a repair job that didn't get us home.

My husband ended up hitch hiking home to get our other vehicle since our cell phone was dead, and wouldn't have had reception anyway. We finally towed ourselves home.

What was supposed to be a 4 hour drive took 2 1/2 days.

I'm thankful though that we're all home at last, safe, and sound.

I missed blogging so much, and plan to slumber in my jammies for the next few days blogging it up with my kids at my side.

And, by the way - Mr. Grumpy Pants didn't fair out well in the Sex Dept. - I'm not sure that anyone would have given our situation.

Before I begin my blogging marathon....I need to do a little housekeeping.

While I was away, to my dismay I received my very first negative comment. And, seeing as how I have celebrated all of Sex Diaries of a Mom's 1sts, I thought that I shouldn't miss the opportunity to celebrate - okay to eliminate this one.

Speaking of which, if anyone knows how to delete comments - without moderating them, let me know!

Quite honestly, the comment left me feeling disappointed that some people can be so mean. I try to be nice to everyone, not because I want to put on a facade, but because I strongly believe that you should treat others the way that you would want to be treated.

The comment was left after my post Here, There, and Every Where. In a nut shell, the person that left the comment was angry at myself, and the enthusiastic readers of this blog for being "neglectful wives," and for being "shallow." This person also badgered a few people specifically, and said that our husbands/partners are all likely to want to see if the grass is in fact greener on the other side.

Since I can't delete the comment, and I do care about my readers, and fellow Mom bloggers, I feel the need to set this commenter straight.

First of all, the Mom bloggers who have contributed to Sex Diaries of a Mom, are nothing less than spectacular women; some wives, some partners, some single women. They are Moms. They are women who do more - for themselves, for their kids, for their significant others if they have one, and for their fellow Moms every day by sharing their stories, and supporting one another.

None deserve to be commented at in a disrespectful manner - and anyone who does so is not welcome here at Sex Diaries of a Mom.

Thank you everyone who has been supportive, kind, and just plain awesome.

Never once have I, or will you notice that I call anyone names. I think that it's mean. I may make reference to my husband as a "monster," or "Mr. Grumpy Pants." But he, and I both know that it's in good fun. He reads every word of what I write, and quite often chuckles while reading every sentence.

In fact, in our relationship, and in life, we strongly believe that you shouldn't disrespect people by calling them names, especially out of anger.

I started writing this blog because I wanted to share with other Moms what sex as a Mom can really be like - and in case anyone missed it....it's all in good, plain fun.

Life should be fun.

Many women, including myself have no one to talk about the trials and tribulations of motherhood - and sex. For many of us, it's a topic that is often ignored, and subdued.

I'm not out to get my husband, or to sabotage his sex life. The reality of motherhood is that sometimes, and I repeat sometimes sex just isn't an option. Period.

It's often disheartening for both the men, and the women in a relationship when sex is lacking. I do truly believe in the importance of sex in a marriage, in the importance of intimacy, and of showing your partner the love that they deserve.

The reality of motherhood though, especially with children who are very small however, is that often your sex life isn't like it used to be - or how it will become when they get older.

This doesn't mean that any new Mom should feel victim to a possible adulterous relationship because of their being sexually neglectful to their partners, or their partners feeling unloved, and not sexually satisfied though. I think that this is a statement that is insulting, and extremely inaccurate.

Any man who is a father, and who is of a good character in the first place should want to be understanding, and loving toward the mother of their children. When times get tough, and sometimes sex isn't the first priority in life, both partners should support each other, be understanding, and continue to love each other anyway.

The sex life of a Mom has its ups, and its downs. As does marriage. But, those who take their wedding vows seriously, and do truly love their partners, are in it for better, or for worse.

There is nothing "worse" about motherhood - it's a beautiful, natural part of life. Its tribulations are simply just a whole lot of poop, but in a different pile.

I don't think that anyone should judge people, make assumptions, or be unnecessarily mean towards another person.

It's important to also point out that not all men go out, and slave away for their wives, and children. And, although my husband does work hard to provide for his family. I work equally hard, and I am entitled to equal rights to have my needs met as well. If that means getting sleep as opposed to sex, so be it. It's not to spite him - it's because he loves, and understands what I need as well.

I won't judge, or assume why this person commented the way that they did.

And, by the way. After I read the comment - just to make it abundantly clear, I went to bed with my husband, and looked after him so well that I made his eyes pop out of his head. Oh, and it wouldn't be the first, and it won't be the last time that I do this.

Also, did you know that anger, or aggression is sometimes associated with the lack of sex? It's a hormonal thing. So maybe certain people would be a whole lot less grumpy if they were getting lucky more often - hehummm.

Sincerely,

Mama of Romance
xoxo
